This is well worth the money. It has consistent results. I make the yogurt with skim milk and plain yogurt as my starter - I don't use the powdered milk that they suggest. I then drain the whey to get a thicker greek-style yogurt. It produces a lot of whey - sometimes as much as 2 cups from the initial 4. It depends on how thick you like yours.

I love this little device. It does its job perfectly and uses only 9 watts of power! I have had my yogurt maker for about six months now. I use it regularly and have never had any problems with this machine. It is very small so it does not take up very much counter space, and it is very light weight as well. Makes perfect yogurt every time! I make my yogurt in a glass canning jar instead of the plastic container that comes with it. A regular quart-sized Ball jar fits perfectly inside. Homemade yogurt is so much better than store-bought, in my opinion. I even won over my yogurt-hating family members with a homemade yogurt herb salad dressing that makes the salad the highlight of the meal. You can also strain the yogurt for 6 hours and make "yogurt cheese", which is something with a cream cheese consistency and sour cream like flavor. This is one of those things I almost didn't buy because I thought I might not use it. It turns out that it's so easy and rewarding to make yogurt with this device that I make it all the time, and love every bite! Now I am dreaming of an ice cream maker, so that I can make the ultimate frozen yogurt!

Very happy with this yogurt maker. Wide-mouth quart jar fits in it perfectly so I can warm milk in microwave, add culture, put it in the maker. Eight or so hours later, I have fresh yogurt. Using the glass jar cuts down on mess and clean-up.

I bought two of this item because people said that a 1 quart Mason jar fit inside it perfectly. Unfortunately, since those reviews were written, the design must have changed because quart sized mason jars do not fit the yogurt makers that were delivered to me. The glass jars are too narrow and too tall to work well with it. Now, unless I can find a short fat quart jar, I am stuck with the plastic liner that came with the set. Very disappointed. :(

I own got a Salton Yogurt Maker as a wedding gift and I like it so much I am buying a second one for my sister. This little gadget is perfect. It's easy to use and clean and makes the most delicious yogurt in just 4 hours! It's the perfect size, doesn't hog up my limited kitchen space and the amount of yogurt it makes lasts a week for a family of 3. The instructions and recipe are super simple. You'll get a rich, thick delicious yogurt if you follow the instructions precisely. I feel so much healthier since I've been eating yogurt every day. I highly recommend this product to anyone interested in making their own yogurt at home.

Works great for keeping constant temperature during incubation period. I like the fact that I make one large container and not many little containers.

It does not have automatic turnoff, so I set my stove timer for 7 hours to let me know time to transfer container to fridge.

It has two angular indentations in container (the spoon, which I don't use) nestles on the outside of container), so I'm more careful about making sure that area gets cleaned properly. Otherwise, easy to clean.

After making yogurt, I strain about 1 cup of whey in Donvier yougurt cheese maker, which I also rated a 5.

I just purchased this and made yogurt using Easiyo Custard Style Base and Culture Easiyo Custard Style Vanilla Yogurt Base and Culture, 7-1/2-Ounce. I when I purchased the Easiyo I thought it was just a starter, but it also is a base as well and you just need to add water. I used it in the Salton and left it for about 7 hours and it came out perfect. I'm currently making some yogurt using starter cultures from a previous batch of yogurt. I prefer to scoop some yogurt out and then add fruit to it just before eating it. Some people like the yogurt makers where you make several little jars at a time. I think the yogurt stays creamier when you add the fruit just before eating it. Also, I prefer having to clean one container instead of lots of little jars. Some people complained about a lack of a timer, but I have it in my kitchen and 3 appliances already have timers, so I just set one of them. I highly recommend this product. It's easy and fun to use and the yogurt is delicious.

OK, you can make yogurt in a crockpot or a cooler filled with warm water, etc. ...anything that keeps the temperature constant for the yogurt culture to incubate. However, it is NICE to have a gadget with a small footprint that takes minimal effort to use and is easy to figure out. We have made consistently excellent yogurt every other day with this handy machine and are grateful for it. It has already paid for itself in the money we've saved on store-bought yogurt. At $3 or more per quart, it pays for itself after 8 quarts ($3 x 8 = $24) and we've already made 9 quarts in three weeks.

All you need is a qt. ball jar....mix 3 3/4 cups h20, 2 cups dry milk and a little over 1/2 cup nonfat yogurt heat milk to 180 cool to 110 mix in yogurt put it in your ball jar put your lid on......10 hrs later..... YOGURT! love this thing.

I make a fresh batch of yogurt every week with this product... It is extremely easy! My baby loves yogurt, and I was spending a fortune buying a brand without all the added ingredients and processing of most commercial brands. I use fage (yogurt brand) as my starter, dry milk, and organic fat free milk - Saving money and creating a much better tasting yogurt. I add some blended fresh fruit to each serving and feed to my daughter. Love this thing!!
