I bought one of these on Amazon the other day. It works exactly as described. I used ordinary fat-free yogurt to create strained yogurt (or yogurt cheese) in 2 hrs. I only wish they made a bigger model to make more at one time. But this thing is great. Cleans easily, too.
R
PS--I tried this again, using the cheapest fat-free yogurt I could find. Turned it into thick, creamy fat-free yogurt that wasn't too tart, and tastes as good (or better) than expensive yogurt (fat-free or not!).

Customer Buzz
The Cuisipro Donvier Yogurt Cheese Maker does exactly what it's designed to do. I have used this product to make good yogurt/cheese for the past two years, and it is simple to use and easy to clean with no parts to break down. I purchased this second one on Amazon as a gift for a good friend. She loves it.

Customer Buzz
I love the yogurt after it has been strained through this, but it is the wrong size. I bought this in conjunction with the Salton 1 quart yogurt maker. After the yogurt has cooled, I take a half of a cup out for my next culture and pour the rest into the yogurt cheese maker. The problem is that it doesn't all fit. There is about a half of a cup that doesn't fit. If it were just a little bigger it would be perfect. I'm not sure what the purpose of the wave at the bottom is, but if it were straightened out, the entire quart would fit.

It's also a bit expensive, but it is very convenient. There are many other ways to strain your yogurt including cheese cloth and a coffee filter or two in the bottom of a colander, but this is much more convenient. You simply pour (or spoon) the yogurt in, put the lid on, and stick it into your refrigerator out of the way. I like my yogurt VERY thick, so I usually leave it in over night. I've also left it in for about 24 hours and made a cheese cake from the resulting yogurt cheese.

I also used it with store bought yogurt. It didn't work quite as well with that. I'm guessing it's because of the gelatin they put in, but I'll probably never buy that yogurt again except to use as a culture. I'm spoiled now.

Customer Buzz
Works great and strains fairly fast (I stain off about 1 cup of whey in an hour or less) sitting on my counter.

Some people noted that their homemade yogurt fell thru the larger mesh of the Donvier. I did not have this problem.

I find that if I hold my storage container on the top of the strainer and turn everything over 180 degrees, like an upside-down cake, the yogurt will just "plop" cleanly into the container, with very little loss of product stuck to the mesh.

Would be better if it held a full quart and not 3/4 of a quart.

Customer Buzz
Sorry, I bought this from a cooking store and was very disappointed. I should have listened to some of the other reviews.

1) It absolutely does not work with homemade yogurt. The yogurt just pours through the screen.
2) The unit is not big enough (I make a quart of yogurt at a time). It probably holds about 3 cups.
3) The container that the screen sits into is not deep enough - at all. The yogurt that you are trying to drain, winds up sitting in the liquid (whey) collected at the bottom of the unit. You have to drain it several times.
4) The first time I put it in the dishwasher it showed signs of rust.

I took it back to the store.

Here's what you can do with stuff you probably already have in your kitchen.

Line a deep strainer with a coffee filter. I have a strainer basket that sits upright (similar to a collender). Place over a bowl and add the yogurt. Place in refrigerator over night. Ta Da! Yogurt Cheese!

You might have to use more than one filter to make sure filter comes up high enough on the strainer. If so, I would suggest lining the sides first, then add a filter to the bottom of the strainer. I'm going to buy some extra large paper filters (Restaurant size).

Customer Buzz
This thing does just what it says! I just made a batch of yo cheese and left it in the cuisipro dovier yo cheese maker for 24 hours. What I got is a yummy treat. I used my first batch to make broccoli Alfredo. This cheese made it dreamy creamy. I can not wait to make my next batch! YUM!

Customer Buzz
The excellent draining ability of the Donvier maker allows you to make "Greek" yogurt or other drier style yogurts at home. After draining the yogurt you can actually cook with it and it does not separate. You can also drain sour cream and ricotta in the device. All in all, a very handy tool for the cook and yogurt lover.

Customer Buzz
Forget the cheesecloth! This works marvelously at making yoghurt cheese! It is easy and cleans up well. I highly recommend it.

Customer Buzz
This product was easy to use and went through the dishwasher just fine. What a great invention.

Customer Buzz
I like to make homemade yogurt but it always turns out too runny for my taste. I've been straining the yogurt myself but it's always messy and takes a bowl, strainer, paper towels -- not to mention another container with lid to store the yogurt cheese after it's done. The Donvier Yogurt Cheese Maker is so easy! Just plop your yogurt into the strainer and close the lid. Super simple -- and no mess.

Clean-up is simple. I just pop the strainer portion in the top rack of the dishwasher and give the container a quick swipe with a soapy sponge.

I love the nice cream-cheese consistency of yogurt cheese and now that it is so convenient to make I am using it a lot more often. Yogurt cheese is great mixed with fruit and honey, with salsa as a sour cream substitute to enjoy with tortilla chips or, my new favorite, mixed with a little salt, pepper, and lots of onion powder for a healthy version of french onion dip.

I highly recommend this yogurt cheese maker.

Nesco FD-75PR 700-Watt Food Dehydrator

Product Description

The patented Converge-Flow drying system ensures even drying, no need to rotate trays. With 700 watts of power food dries in hours, not days. The adjustable thermostat ranges from 95 to 160 degrees and provides greater flexibility and better results. Includes five trays but expands to 12 trays with LT-2SG add-a-tray accessories (sold separately). Also includes fruit roll up sheet, Clean-A-Screen. Contemporary Granite Vita-Save exterior blocks light and helps retain more vitamins and nutrients.

Customer Buzz
I love it - this dehydrator is a great value for the money. Without getting something significantly more expensive I couldn't ask it to work better for what I wanted. I have dried all kinds of fruits and made fruit roll-ups. I have not tried meats yet. The motor is not very loud and I just slice stuff up, lay it in there and let it work its magic!

Customer Buzz
This is the best dehydrator I have ever used. I even bought one for my grandson who loves jerky.

Customer Buzz
I researched for awhile before choosing this dehydrator. So far, I'm very impressed. It's fast and I like being able to choose the temperature. Unlike others who've posted here, I didn't want an auto shutoff because you need to check on food that you're dehydrating. The type of food, thickness, and fat content all impact the total drying time. Let it go too long and it ends up crispy. Turn it off too early and it ends up soggy or with congealed fat. Sadly, just two days after I received mine, Amazon put it on a Friday sale for $20 less than what I paid. Oh well!
**Update - Just an FYI - this unit is QUIET. Yes - you do hear the fan blowing, but it's about as loud as a small desk fan.

Customer Buzz
Most everything geared towards people who love raw food is expensive including the excaliber dehydrater which is a few hundred $$$. I chose this because I can dehydrate on low levels of heat to preserve the enzymes and vitamins as much as possible. I have had great success using this at 100-105 with all my fruits and veggies and my most favorite thing is the easiest of all to make (fruit roll ups!!!) .

Customer Buzz
I use this dehydrator mainly to make dried chicken and beef strips for my dog and dogs I board on occasion. I also make salmon strips for them. The dogs LOVE these healthy treats, it takes little over 5 hrs if fully loaded to get them all ready, and I know that there are neither preservatives nor other unhealthy additives that could cause allergies or even worse. Considering that a 15 oz. bag of chicken strips costs anywhere between 11 - 16 Dollar (and contains preservatives), this machine was "free" within 3 months. Works well for drying apples, bananas, sweet potatoes and herbs as well.

Comes with a booklet that gives you an idea about drying time. Suggested times might vary though, depending on how thick you slice the items. You will figure out the perfect time quickly though.

Even when drying salmon the fish smell is almost non-existent and the humming noise is not disturbing.

Customer Buzz
PRO:
Dehydrator is exceptional works great
CON:
Clean up of the shelve grids took 20 minutes, for 5 grid shelves even after soaking in hot soapy water for an hour.
You will need a very stiff brush with parallel straight brush lines DO NOT USE CIRCULAR, sponge no, fiber no, it took a stiff brush with 1 inch stiff bristles in a straight line in five rows, and that still took 20 minutes to get them really clean and there were still residue sections in the corners. The manufacturer did not seem to address this aspect of the dehyrating lifecycle. They should make a special cleaning brush with the bristles wide enough to fit in the openings but tight enough to scrape and clean the surface. You will see what I mean when you get it, this is not enough wrong to cause you not to buy one.

Apples were ok, jerky took a long time to clean up, so you have to make a trade off, either mop up excess marinade off of surface of meat before putting in hydrator (which takes away flavor) or plan on a long clean up afterwords.
You should be ok if you use a dry jerky rub mixture.

I cut the meat thick over a quarter of an inch thick by 1 inch wide, like thick bacon, it is ready in 4-6 hours depending on how dry you like it.

I prefer it a little chewy and soft, so that would be about 5 hours for five very very full trays.
6 or more will give you shoe leather tough if that is what you like.
Other than hard to clean girds the product is great.
The lack of a switch is not an issue, also I did not see that much difference in rotating up the trays in the vertical stack, I load and forget about it, it will take care of itself. I can do about 7 pounds of beef or turkey in one load, even when thick.

Customer Buzz
I am drying apples now and some beef is marinating to be dried in a couple of days. I've done pears, pineapple, strawberries and banana. It does a great job on all. Quiet machine. Very easy on clean up. Buy extra screens. What I like is the ability to create things to the crunchiness and taste that I like. I like my strawberries a little juicy - not as dry as a chip. I have yet to decide on a final perfect marinade for my jerky. Today's batch is in orange juice, soy, apples, cumin, curry, hot peppers, honey and molasses. No problem though, its all tasting good. I'm having fun and eating healthy. Will probably buy a second one when the garden is in full production.

Customer Buzz
this is one for you if your looking for a food dehydrator
Ive dried apples in 4 hours, not the days that the ronco takes.
Next will come trying some turkey jerky-- yummmm

Customer Buzz
it's more than paid for itself

I've dried pound after pound of venision jerky, homemade fruit rollups for the kids and lots of other sliced fruits and veg's

bought it for the jerky, works perfectly and makes the jerky in a little less than 6 hours... I've sliced hams/roasts and also used the jerky gun with ground venision, it makes perfect jerky everytime

I'm extremely impressed with this product, thanks!!

Customer Buzz
I know others have rated this item high, but I didn't have a positive experience - I found that it takes wayyyyyyyyy to long for items to dry - I placed thin banana slices and after 30 hours they were still really moist - I thought it was this particular batch of banana's so I tried another batch - same results -Not sure if it was my particular unit - it's possible it just wasn't working correctly

Oster 4716 Egg Cooker

Product Description

Mad Catz Xbox 360 GamePad is officially licensed by Microsoft for use on the Xbox 360 gaming console. The Xbox 360 GamePad features analog triggers and joysticks. A vibration feedback technology immerses you in the game letting you feel all the action.

Customer Buzz
This is the easiest way I could find to cook eggs. I know, it seems easy to boil water and throw eggs in the pot, but then you have to wait for the water to boil, put the eggs in, wait for them to be done, dump the water, deal with really hot eggs etc. With this cooker, add water, put the eggs in, cover, hit the button, walk away and come back when convenient and you'll have hard boiled eggs. Eggs aren't necessarily bad for you, especially if you just eat the egg whites for the protein! :) Only downside: kind of hard to clean, but I find that wiping it with a towel or paper towel works best to take off the grime.

Customer Buzz
I have used this model of Oster egg cooker for 10 or 15 years. I have also used a couple of other brands. No other egg cooker product poaches eggs as consistently perfect as this one. It also hard boils eggs well.

Customer Buzz
I too am the victim of a this egg cooker which did not shut off and melted the top which fused to the machine. I was making eggs for Easter dinner and when I came in from outside the smell was horrible. I tossed the entire egg cooker in the trash as I could not even pry it open. I never thought about contacting them until I was going to order a new one and read other reviews where this appears to be a serious problem with this cooker. I purchased mine in late 2005 and only use it 2-3 times a year.....so this makes about the 10th time it has been used. I sent a inquiry to Oster and there response back to me was that it has a 1 year warrenty and since I can not produce the product there is nothing they will do. I can tell you I will not make the same mistake by buying this product again. Up until it melted, I would have highly recommended it as it made perfect hard boiled eggs. I recommended to Oster that there needs to be a safety recall on this product!

Customer Buzz
My wife and I love poached eggs, but my efforts at cooking them were never predictable - runny one time, overcooked the next. Although my first couple uses of the Oster produced overcooked eggs, I finally experimented by using just over half the recommended amount of water (I use enough water that the surface tension just breaks over the first ledge) and my poached eggs are coming out perfect every time now. My wife says whatever I paid for it, it'd be worth it!

Customer Buzz
I've been using this egg cooker for a month now and on the whole I like it a lot. For hard boiled eggs it's terrific. For poached eggs is just okay. It only holds large eggs and they're hard to get out of the cooker because the little handle gets so hot.

Customer Buzz
I tell you, on the days I use this little device--I lose weight. And that's because I have a couple of hard-boiled eggs around. Furthermore, they are easy to peel, and perfectly cooked, the yolk creamy and not dry. Once a week or so, I put my extra eggs into a sweet little bath of whatever vinegar I have a taste for, whatever spices, and enjoy pickled eggs.

And it's all made possible by this device. I have experienced no problems after several months of use, it is easy to clean, and it makes hard-boiled, soft-boiled, and poached eggs completely easy and completely fool-proof. I clean mine by holding the water well under warm running water (with the electrical end up and above the water flow) and run a brush over it, and any small eggy residue whisks right off. The residue comes from the fact that one pierces the eggs with a tiny built-in --tooth before starting the cycle.

Of course reviewers who said the finished signal should be more audible are right. It makes you pay attention.

Customer Buzz
This product makes it very easy to make perfect hard boiled eggs every time. Set it and forget it. The only downside is that cleaning after use took a little effort. I recommend this product to anyone.

Customer Buzz
This makes eggs just the way you want soft, medium,or hard. It is an easy appliance to use.

Customer Buzz
I'm finding I have to watch the cooking time very carefully. Poached eggs will overcook if I wait for the unit to shut off. Same with the hard boiled, I use a kitchen timer and am still trying to arrive at the correct timing, the water level suggestions have not worked for me. I'm confident once I get the timing down it will be great...had hoped this wouldn't be necessary. Also wish it had a buzzer to alert when finished.

Customer Buzz
I love my Oster Egg Cooker. No more watching the clock when I boil eggs. I just put them in the cooker and push the button. Poached eggs are easy and slide right out of the cups. I am very pleased about the product.

Krups 230-70 Egg Express Egg Cooker

Product Description

  • Boils up to 7 eggs (soft, medium or hard)
  • Dual switch for boiling and keep warm setting
  • Signal to indicate end of cooking cycle
  • Removable egg holder facilitates cooling under cold tap water
  • Dual purpose lid-use as a dip tray or serving tray
  • Lid and egg holder are dishwasher safe
  • 2 poaching trays included

    Customer Buzz
I have had a number of egg cookers over the years, and find that the Krups which I recently purchased is compact and easy to use. I have already used it to hard boil over 3 dozen eggs, and it has performed perfectly.

    Customer Buzz
    I love eggs.

Perhaps that's not correct. I love EATING eggs. I like them hardboiled, the boyfriend likes them poached. The problem is, I don't like babysitting a pot.

I recall a time in college where I had set some eggs a boiling pot of water and forgot to set my kitchen timer. Next thing I knew, I had forgotten my poor little pot of eggs and became absorbed in homework (yea, right... television), not realizing the impending doom of the evaporated water until the dry eggs started exploding in my kitchen.

Needless to say, an automatic egg cooker seemed like the perfect companion to my clutzy kitchen skills.

The problem is, the timer is just that -- a kitchen timer. And a quiet one (at least in my opinion). The device does not turn itself off at the end of its cycle. I've gotten a couple slightly rubbery eggs due to the assumption that the machine will shut itself off (much like my rice cooker switches to "keep warm" after the cooking cycle) and the low buzzing sound doesn't penetrate through the dining room and living room to reach my boisterous entertainment room. The buzz is annoying enough, to be sure, just not LOUD enough.

So, like the standard kitchen timer, I'll likely have to keep this egg cooker in the same room that I'm in, so that I can hear the alarm as it goes off.

Even so, it's still a good cooker. The boyfriend loves the poached eggs (since heaven knows I don't know how to cook them right), and I love not having to fish the eggs out of boiling water right on time. You still do have to babysit the timer, and turn the machine to "keep warm" manually after the alarm sounds, but it's still better than being chained to a pot in the kitchen. At least now I can cook eggs next to my television without missing anything.

    Customer Buzz
I have never been able to make a hard boiled egg with beautiful yellow yolks...until now. This small machine is so easy to use and makes beautiful eggs every time. I do not use the warm setting as I think it will cook the eggs longer; as soon as the buzzer goes off, I remove the eggs from the machine and run them under cool water or put them in the fridge. The eggs are also much easier to peel than traditionally cooked eggs. All in all - this product is wonderful!

    Customer Buzz
This egg cooker provides a convenient means of cooking eggs properly, something that should be easy on a stove top but usually isn't. This cooker tends to cook eggs a little more that the instructions suggest. If you want a soft-boiled egg, go with the measurements for really soft eggs and you'll get medium soft. The little poaching trays work really well, but once again go easy on the estimate for cooking time. Two things: Both times I've hard-boiled eggs, one of them has broken. Also, piercing the shell before hard boiling the eggs as instructed does not prevent a slight greening of the yolks (and I was using really fresh, free-range eggs). Since this is the first one of these things I've had, I can't compare it with anything.

    Customer Buzz
The Krups Egg Express is just what the name implies. It cooks perfect eggs every time...quickly and easily. I am not sure how it does it...but it does. Thanks to this little cooker I enjoy eggs a lot more often during the busy work week because they are so easy to cook with this cooker. Just measure out the right amount of water with the included measuring "tube", turn it on and wait for the buzzer...Voila! Breakfast! I highly recommend this cooker to anyone who likes boiled and/or poached eggs! It would make a great gift too!

    Customer Buzz
This is a decent egg cooker... I guess. It only loused up the eggs a couple of times. Unfortunately, it lasted just over a year... just like the one before it.
The switch is a little confusing. I'm neither used to nor like the European nomenclature with pictographs. How about "ON - OFF - WARM?" That works! I wish as much for the cooker. I'm going back to the pot.

    Customer Buzz
My husband loves boiled eggs. We have had an egg cooker for nearly 30 years. Gee, they've been around that long? Yup.

We've had about 4 different cookers over the years, and this one is probably the best. The only drawback to this one is that it only holds 7 eggs. We have had at least one that held 8 eggs.

We like the see-through cover. We like the little handle on the side of the egg basket, sturdiest one we ever had. We like the loud buzzer to let you know the eggs are done. You can definitely hear that one at the other end of our little house.

My husband doesn't like poached eggs, and we have an actual separate pan for that, so I can't say anything about the egg cooker's poached eggs. We have had the cooker for a year or two now, and it is still running great. Every few months I soak the base with vinegar to clean the mineral deposits out, and then it is like new again.

    Customer Buzz
I needed a replacement egg cooker to replace an old Oster unit after I had melted the plastic lid. I searched in vain for one in stores and ended up going online. This one had fairly good reviews at a fair price; the unit arrived as advertised - even more compact and better nesting for storage than my old unit. I'm back to cooking soft- and hard-boiled eggs quickly and consistently - something I can't do with a pot of boiling water. I haven't tried to cook poached eggs. It is all plastic with some sort of non-stick coating on the cooking surface.

Pluses: I like that you can wrap the cord into the base. The buzzer signaling the end of cooking cycle is nice - the old Oster I had would just click off quietly and you wouldn't know it was finished.

Minus: Only one. The power switch has 3 positions - 'Warming' (left position), 'Off' (center position) and 'Cooking' (right position). These are marked, not with words, but with some sort of international symbol that, to me, do not clearly describe the result. To top it off, when switched to 'warming', the pan will get hot enough to boil water and cook an egg, but cooking is slower, there won't be a buzzer signalling that cooking is done and, like an Easter egg, you won't know what you're going to get until you open the egg. I've had just one mistake and after re-reading the directions, I haven't been confused since. I would buy this model as a gift - I might and just keep it as a spare...

    Customer Buzz
The Krups egg cooker works great! It's fast, makes perfect hard-boiled eggs every time, and has a buzzer to let you know when the eggs are done. It is very easy to clean, too--just wipe it out with a moist cloth. The plastic parts are dishwasher safe. I have only used it a couple of times but it does just what it says it would. Also it is small so it fits on the counter almost any place.I don't eat pouched so I can't comment on that feature. One thing I do have to say is that if you like your eggs ""HARD BOILED" then you just add a little more water(as if you had less eggs) and they come out perfect.Buy it YOU will like it!!!!!!!!!!

    Customer Buzz
The Krups egg cooker works great! It's fast, makes perfect hard-boiled eggs every time, and has a loud buzzer to let you know when the eggs are done. It also has the "keep warm" feature which keeps the eggs warm but does not cause them to become rubbery. It is very easy to clean, too--just wipe it out with a moist cloth. The plastic parts are dishwasher safe. We use it almost every day.
We have never used it for poached eggs so can't comment on that feature.
